2^nd Triëste Waterbike Trophy

The Bavisela event took place in Triëste on 26-27 April 2002.

A little story of the event and the results:

The arrival
Thursday afternoon April 25th the teams arrived in Triëste. The atmosphere was good and it was nice to see people again from all the teams after winter. Last event where everybody met was probably in Eutin, Germany, at the World Championships 2001.
Because of this a lot had to be discussed about waterbikes, including strong stories. And with all those people offering you nice beers, which where for free anyway, it got quite late.

Nevertheless, the real sportsman members of the team took a little care of themselves. After all, next day the team honour was the thing that mattered.

The competitions
On Friday morning the boats were mounted and it was a nice day for racing.

Saturday morning, weather prospects were already indicating less good environmental conditions. Finally most of the races planned on Saturday were cancelled, because of heavy winds.
The team from Zagreb unfortunately turned up-side-down in the water. Although the boat has a pair of side hulls for stability, they flipped over. What was the problem, did they have a technical failure or did they push their boat beyond the limits?

Although many of the races for the women teams were cancelled, Donatella showed themselves from their best side. And they were definitely proud! Will they become a promising ladies team in the future?

One of the boats from the Triëste Waterbike Team is UFO. The picture below shows her launching in the harbour. So from now on, it's not an unidentified floating object for you any more.. although, when it flies over the European waters.. Would you recognise it?

The location of the races
This year the races were held at the best location in Triëste: At front side of the Piazza Unità, the larger square area next to Italy with one side near the sea.
The location was very good for visitor to watch the races closely.

• The Burn Out has been performed outside of the water (the night of Saturday) and it was a speed drinking beer race (it is not included into the overall).
• The Overall is considered only for the men's races (considering that the women's teams have not performed enough races).

For the Triëste Waterbike Team it was an honour to organise the Triëste Trophy as part of the Bavisela event.
